For the past eight years The Design Museum in London has selected designs throughout the world and celebrated them in the Designs of the Year exhibition. The designs chosen fall into a wide variety of categories, such as fashion, architecture, and transportation. The tagline that encapsulates the show is “Someday the other museums will be showing this stuff”.
One of the pieces that stood out to me the most was an animated typeface called Franchise, from Animography. It was designed by a single designer, Derek Weathersbee, and animated by 110 animators. The unique style of each animator makes every element interesting and different while the consistency of color and letterform ties Franchise together. This typeface is a beautiful collaboration that is available for free and is open source so everyone can play!
